High-Fructose Diet Leads To Memory Loss

Some of the dangers of high fructose corn syrup previously were shown in different scientific media; But this is the first time that scientists were able to link between higher consumption of fructose and brain function. In a study published on May 15th 2012 on Journal of Physiology, researchers from University of California Los Angeles reported the link between memory loss and eating a high-fructose diet in mice: “Our findings illustrate that what you eat affects how you think: Eating a high-fructose diet over the long term alters your brain’s ability to learn and remember information. But adding omega-3 fatty acids to your meals can help minimize the damage.” Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, professor of neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and professor of integrative biology and physiology in the UCLA College of Letters and Science.
